Yes, we’ve heard the news too! Heck, we helped make the news. But rumor control will come later; for now we’re just all trying on our new sunglasses and working on our SoCal tans.
If you haven’t heard the news, I’d recommend picking up a copy of All You Need Is Kill before everyone else does. Then you can say you knew the novel way back when…

So am I prescient or what, Nick? Here’s what I said about AYNIK back in July of ‘09:
“AYNIK is destined to become a classic,…Despite not quite being finished with it I can already make this prognostication.”
Interesting, for a work that you mentioned (in our interview) harkened back to/drew on older English language SF sensibilities (while of course still being an excellent story in its own right).
Just goes to prove what I felt about Haikasoru from the beginning: you guys know how to pick the right stuff. And it proves that I can recognize that too!
Just saw this on the screen crawl for G4 tv’s ATTACK OF THE SHOW…well done, and congrats! Now I really have to pick this up and read it!
I could be wrong, but honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of the rights to a Japanese SF novel being acquired for a future film. Normally, it’s the rights to the original film that are bought for a future re-make.
Now, if Hollywood were to do this for YUKIKAZE….8-)
Hey pseud—Haikasoru is an “imprint” (basically, my desk in a big room full of editorial desks) so it’s not like a wheelbarrow full of money was dumped in front of me. The news certainly a handy “proof of concept” though,
Also, if you buy twenty-thirty Yukikazes a week for the next twenty weeks, we’ll be good!
Have I heard the news? Hell, yeah. There’s good rockin’ tonight.
