It’s the A SMALL CHARRED FACE giveaway contest!

Next month we’re releasing A Small Charred Face, an amazing vampire novel by Kazuki Sakuraba. The early reviews are great and it’s coming out next month, just in time for long autumn nights meant for reading something creepy. So of course it is time for one of our giveaway contests!

As usual, the giveaway will work like this: leave a small essayistic (or poetic!) comment on this post, this time describing your favorite vampire story in any medium, and telling us why. We’ll select our four favorites on Friday August 25th, around noon Pacific time, and we’ll ship copies of the book to the winners. We ship anywhere, and read Japanese, Spanish, and Greek as well as English! So tell us what you think!

And now, the LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES giveaway contest winners!

We have chosen the winners to the Legend of Galactic Heroes giveaway contest! And they are:

First up is Blu: we had to give a book to one of the people who named LOGH as their favorite series, after all!

Then we have GreyDuck, who named C.J. Cherryh Foreigner series, one of our faves.  (PS: if you like “competence porn”, please also check out our near-future SF thriller Orbital Cloud!)

Metal Abaj goes international with his entry on the eurocomic Valérian et Laureline. We’ve spent so much time explaining that the forthcoming movie isn’t a “rip-off” of The Fifth Element, so we’re pleased to award a fellow fan!

And last but not least, Andres Rodriguez goes classic with the Asimov’s Robot series! Vital stuff.

Check back here soon for our next giveaway. (Hint: vampires!) getanabolics

It’s the LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES giveaway contest!

To celebrate the release of Legend of the Galactic Heroes v4: Stratagem, we are doing a giveaway contest, and a special one. We’re giving away copies of v2, v3, or v4 to one of four lucky winners. (Winners’ choice, of course!)  We’ve not done giveaways for the prior volumes of LOGH for the simple reason that many people were eager for the series—word of mouth is the best marketing tool. But as we are almost halfway through the series now, we wanted to remind fans who may have read the first volume that it is continuing, and at a rapid pace. We’re here to help you keep track and catch up!

The contest is a simple one: in the form of a comment to this point, write about your favorite science fiction series: it can be a set of novels, films, comics, manga, pulp stories from the Golden Age, what have you—just make sure it’s science fiction and a series. Tell is why it’s your favorite, and what the series element of it brings to you as a reader. (And as we’re publishers here, we probably will have a bias toward novel series.) You can submit in English, Spanish, Japanese, or Greek, and on Friday we’ll announce four winners! Pick the volume you need and we’ll send it your way. And yes, we ship worldwide.

So, favorite SF series and why? Ready, go!

The ORBITAL CLOUD giveaway contest winners!

Thanks to all who entered. We asked you what your favorite hard SF story was, and you…had some. Here are our four winners of Orbital Cloud by Taiyo Fujii!

First is Mike D. for his deep cut answer Hayford Peirce’s novelette “High Yield Bond” (1975). Just the reference deserves a book!

Jmitsu wrote a sonnet about Biogenesis by Tatsuaki Ishiguro. A good one!

We’ve often said that if you liked The Martian, you’ll love the positive science fiction of Taiyo Fujii, and now Pilar will prove it for us.

Finally, Jeremiah Tolbert wins for his mention of black holes, the most mind-bending and space-bending bit of hard SF furniture (and our astounding universe.)

Congratulations to all the winners!
