It’s an interesting problem, isn’t it? You’d first have to define what an ideal society is. Whose world view is the “correct” one? For example, would you want to encourage science and therefore remove those who fear and obstruct curiosity about existence? Perhaps you’d prefer a simpler agrarian life and instead kill off everyone who isn’t Amish? What if the person controlling the DeathNote was a violent anarchist, someone who believed chaos ruled and “might made right”? Then people who believed in peace and order would be targeted, no?

Perhaps the world of DeathNote was lucky the notebook fell into Light’s hands after all. Things could have gone a lot worse.

Julia, yup, it’s a notebook. Shinigami write our names in their books to end our lives in certain ways. The Death Note saga begins when one of them leaves his notebook on Earth because he’s bored and curious as to what might happen if someone finds it.
