I for one really hope the Short Story medium isn’t dieing. But I can certainly understand why people might feel hesitant regarding it.

Otsuichi’s light novel “Calling You” was a series of 3 short stories. I loved it. An amazing novel in my opinion. And based on that, and his 2 other great short stories in Faust, I eagerly bought “Zoo”.

Now, although I don’t agree all the stories are quite good. In fact, so far, having read a little over half the book, some stories are just downright sub-par when compared to other things Otsuichi has written. However, some of those short stories in “Zoo” are just wonderful and make the entire book worthwhile.

Otsuichi, when truly putting his all into his stories, can truly produce an amazing work of fiction.
