I don't understand how the supernatural -- the impossible, nonexistent -- can be horrific. But psychology? my god, that scares the hell out of me: a pair of ice picks to the frontal lobes.

If you want to scare me, really scare me, make it real.

It's so beautiful when other languages are brought to English. It seems an antidote to the perpetuatual spreading of dominant ideas. In terms of psychological horror, Robert Bloch did plenty of seminal work that was scary without being supernatural. I'm looking forward to Zoo.

It's interesting, the differences in which stories the reviewers choose to focus on, and why.

I'm not sure that this: "Another thing I noticed was that many of the stories eschew giving their characters names." (from the SH review) is really as unusual as all that, especially if you're dealing with a lot of first-person narratives from social isolated or alienated characters.

Still, the reviews taken together definitely make me want to check this one out.
